Jonna Yarrington is a postdoctoral scholar and director of the Lab’s Environmental Justice Policy Clinic.

She received her Ph.D. in 2020 from the University of Arizona School of Anthropology, where she worked in the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology.

Dr. Yarrington’s research focuses on sociocultural consequences of climate change and coastal sea-level rise. Since 2016, she has been working on Tangier Island, Virginia, a small island of under 400 residents that is rapidly subsiding into the Chesapeake Bay. Trained as a Caribbean anthropologist, she has also worked on projects in northern Haiti and coastal French Guiana. Dr. Yarrington’s postdoctoral research, on Tangier and in the wider Chesapeake Bay region, examines practices and concepts of liability, indemnity, and justice in cases of longterm environmental threat.
